  • We are seeking a world-class Firmware Engineer to lead the Embedded Firmware System Design Verification team developing a wide variety of advanced next-generation high performance storage system enclosures for the OEM and data center marketplace. You will have demonstrated leadership ability executing complex programs and an understanding of the who, what and how of system development. You will have strong skills and experience in the computer server and storage industry including familiarization with embedded storage processors, storage protocols, and servers. This is a high-impact, high visibility opportunity for the right individual with superior technical skills, good project management abilities, and an enthusiasm for success.

    Essential Responsibilities

    • Generate requirements for hardware features required to support board bring-up, debug, verification, and diagnostics of low-level FW/HW interfaces and low-level system interfaces
    • Review system and board level specification to ensure all verification and diagnostic requirements are properly incorporated
    • Review system and board level designs (schematics, BOMs, etc.) to ensure all verification and diagnostic requirements are properly implemented
    • Generate specifications for FW features needed for circuit board and system design validation per requirements provided by HW verification engineering and HW design teams
    • Develop processes to identify embedded system design issues early in the product development lifecycle
    • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including FW, EE, ME, and Manufacturing to bringup and integrate sub-systems into the overall system as well as debug and diagnose root causes of verification failures
    • Develop Firmware/Software to aide in circuit board design validation (electrically and functionally)
    • Create Diagnostics and Built in Self-Test (BIST) software tools
    • Integrate low-level diagnostics with manual analysis to incrementally and rapidly regress the circuits under test
    • Identify hardware design flaws and BOM incompatibility issues
    • Uncover marginal timing and other related design issues in the hardware
    • Identify manufacturing process errors and recommend process improvements
    • Drive issue resolution and product stability to enable predictable and high quality product development
    • Support integration with existing DCS continuous integration automation frameworks
    • Provide mentorship to junior engineers as needed 

    Qualifications and Education:

    • BS or MS degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science (or related field)
    • 8+ years of experience with storage product embedded systems development
    • Demonstrated microcontroller development experience using C/C++/Assembly
    • Strong debugging skills using kernel mode debuggers and electrical circuit test equipment such as logic analyzers and bus analyzers
    • Ability to debug RTOS issues using JTAG, UART, and other interfaces
    • Linux & Windows scripting experience (Python is bonus)
    • Knowledge of software design, real-time operating systems, and hardware-software interfaces
    • In-depth storage protocol experience with SAS, SCSI, NVMe and PCIe
    • Ability to read electrical specifications, identify potential issues/high risk areas, and recommend solutions
    • Demonstrated ability in creative problem solving and innovation
    • Strong team player, effective communication skills, and highly motivated
    • Knowledge of agile development and self-managed development teams from design to production
