    Minimum Qualifications

    The position will be filled at one of the following levels depending upon minimum qualifications:

    Engineer A:

    • Education and/or Equivalent Experience: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a field related to the job, plus four (4) years engineering experience acquired either before and/or after licensing as a professional engineer.

     

    • Licenses or Certifications: State of Texas Professional Engineer License.

    Engineer B:

    • Education and/or Equivalent Experience: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a field related to the job, plus six (6)years engineering experience acquired either before and/or after licensing as a professional engineer.

     

    • Licenses or Certifications: State of Texas Professional Engineer License at the time of hire.

    Engineer C:

    • Education and/or Equivalent Experience: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a field related to the job, plus eight (8) years engineering experience acquired either before and/or after licensing as a professional engineer.

     

    • Licenses or Certifications: State of Texas Professional Engineer License at the time of hire.

    This position is for a full time transportation engineer located within the Land Use Review (LUR) division of the Development Services Department. As a member of the multi-disciplinary team of reviewers housed in LUR, the transportation engineer will be responsible for the review of development applications including subdivision, preliminary plans and final plat, site plan and construction documents.

    This position requires working in a deadline focused environment.

    Pay Rates:

    Engineer A ($32.84 – $42.63 per hour):
    Engineer B ($34.80 – $45.18 per hour):
    Engineer C ($36.53 – $48.34 per hour):

    If you are selected for this position, and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Safety Program, you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Ability to travel to more than one work location.
    • Registration as a licensed professional engineer in the state of Texas, or the ability to obtain within one year of hire.
    • Experience in reviewing or preparing transportation design plans, interpreting and applying design standards, responding to applicant inquiries and developing appropriate solutions.
    • The ability to exercise good judgment and diplomacy and maintain confidentiality as required.
    • Demonstrate a knowledge of, and experience working with, development and permitting processes.
    • Possess strong communication skills in writing, reviewing and interpreting technical documents and speaking before a non-technical audience.
