    Job Description

    FlexRadio Systems in Austin has an opening for a digital design engineer working with a select group of engineers building software-defined radios. In our laid-back environment, you will be a member of a cross-disciplinary team building state of the art direct-sampling software defined radios (SDR). You will use our current SDR platform which employs an asymmetric multiprocessor-based CPU and FPGA designs as a foundation to design a radio system for our government customer. Using your knowledge of digital design and the specifications for our new product, you will work with our technology leaders to design a new CPU and FPGA processing subsystem. You will also design a new processing platform using the latest multi-core processors and memory. FlexRadio is hiring multiple engineering positions at both the senior and junior levels.

    Requirements

    • Bachelor of Science (BS) in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering (EE or ECE) from an accredited university
    • Comprehensive knowledge of digital electronic devices, processors and FPGAs including circuit design principles, signal integrity considerations and ability to use tools such as Hyperlinx for design verification
    • Understanding and ability to integrate design constraints related to DRAM, FPGA integration, and high-speed signals
    • Hands-on experience with board design, bring-up, debug, test and integration and lab instruments such as oscilloscopes and spectrum analyzers
    • Motivated self-starter with leadership skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment
    • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Proficiency in electronics design (EDA) tools
    • Must be a US Citizen or permanent resident

    Preferred Skills and Education

    • Master of Science (MS) degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering (EE or ECE) and 10+ years of experience
    • Extensive experience designing systems with Xilinx FPGAs
    • Extensive experience translating complex microprocessor EVMs into derivative designs
    • Licensed amateur radio operator and/or military background
    • Fluency in Mentor Graphics Xpedition

    Key Responsibilities

    • Participate and contribute during design of product, working with other design engineers to create a high-level product design
    • Work with system architect to partition electronics across system modules
    • Schematic design of microprocessor and FPGA based computing engine, data acquisition and signal generation systems
    • PCB layout of designs using IPC standards or work with certified layout designer to accomplish PCB layout
    • Generate and maintain a bill of materials (BOM)
    • Board bring-up of designed assemblies
    • Identification of any PCBA issues and incorporation of necessary changes
    • Documentation of design and transition to software team
    • Integration of hardware into complete system
