The Software and Applications Engineering (SAE) Division supports Los Alamos National Laboratory’s (LANL) enterprise application and performs software application development support, database development and administration, software quality management, and enterprise application consulting. The Site Infrastructure, Mission, and Programs Software Group (SAE-3) provides software engineering services, custom application development, and commercial off the shelf application implementations.
The selected candidate will work as a 3D Designer and Developer to support the development and maintenance of institutional and departmental VISIBLE Team applications. The selected candidate will be assigned to various projects based off the needs of the organization and at the discretion of SAE-1 management.
The Application Software Developer will collaborate with other engineering disciplines, program participants, sponsors, and computer scientists to develop immersive tools, information systems, and applications that are essential to executing our missions. Keeping up-to-date on emerging technologies and tools will be expected.
Software Developer 1 ($62,800.00 - $99,800.00)
Working along side some of the brightest minds, you will support the development and maintenance of various internal and external applications. You will also help develop and maintain Laboratory web based applications. Specific duties include tasks associated with the upkeep of various laboratory applications, the design and development of new applications and standards, and ensuring compliance with Laboratory specifications, standards, and security policies
The selected candidate will work as a team member to design, develop, and maintain multiple 3D models, virtual/augmented reality environments, simulation tools to address needs related to nuclear facility security, on-the-job training, event reconstruction, and proof of concepts.
Software Developer 2 ($75,400.00 - $122,900.00)
In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level you will provide mentoring to junior staff members. We are looking for someone who likes to self-initiate work with limited supervision, use independent judgment for determining course of action to accomplish objectives, and use a broad range of advanced technical skills to solve complex technical issues.

Minimum Job Requirements:
Solving unique Web development and production problems by using analytic ability and innovative thinking to meet budget, timetables, and objectives. Experience and demonstrated skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions to problems.
Applicants must have the ability to obtain and maintain DOE clearances, which normally requires US citizenship.
Software Developer 1 Education Required: Position typically requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Project management experience demonstrated through the direction and responsibility for numerous complex projects involving a number of components such as resources, budget, and schedule.
Demonstrated experience designing and developing large applications from the ground up.
Excellent writing and verbal communication skills with the ability to negotiate and use proper judgment in order to resolve conflicts, solve problems, increase efficiency, and improve services and products with minimal management help.
Software Developer 2 Education Required: Position typically requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
