Los Alamos National Laboratory is looking for an enthusiastic mid-level structural engineer with an interest in designing structural systems for new construction and facility modernization projects across the laboratory.
As a Structural Engineer you will be responsible for developing Contract Documents consisting of drawings and specifications that define structural systems such as; foundations, structural framing including steel, concrete, masonry, commodity supports, etc. You will also be responsible for performing structural engineering calculations and performing verification of calculations performed by others that form the basis of the structural design documentation. In addition to designing in accordance with International Building Codes requirements and reference standards, LANL designs also are required to meet Federal, DOE, State and LANL design standards. LANL engineers also represent the LANL building official and review plans, specifications and calculations performed by outside design agencies for compliance with project design requirements.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Training/Certifications: Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certificate and eligibility to sit for the Professional Engineering exam .
Education/Experience: Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in structural engineering with 4 years of relevant experience implementing the requirements described above.

Technical writing sample: With your application, provide a one paragraph sample of technical writing describing the fundamental differences in seismic design and behavior of ordinary, intermediate and special steel moment framing systems.
